"In the fall of 2014, my good friends returned home to Durham after living in Australia for a few years and were expecting their first child. The week he was born, I sat down with an acoustic guitar. With joy for my friends I came up with this simple set of songs. After spending the better part of three years working on Southland Mission, making this in a single day was a relief. A couple of takes and a couple of mistakes. If Southland was made for exuberant road trips, Old Hwy D is made for contemplative night drives or the perfect quiet moments in the waking hours of a new life." - Phil Cook
